Staff Wellbeing Hub
Supporting the wellbeing of our school team
Staff Wellbeing Hub
At Walworth Primary School, we recognise that the wellbeing of our staff is essential to creating a positive, supportive and successful learning environment for our pupils. We are committed to promoting a culture where staff feel valued, supported and able to access help when needed.
We recognise the diverse roles undertaken by staff across both our school and residential provision. Our wellbeing initiatives are designed to support all colleagues and acknowledge the important contribution each member of staff makes to the lives of our children and young people.
Supporting Wellbeing in School
Staff wellbeing is regularly considered as part of our school culture and day-to-day practice. We aim to create an environment where colleagues feel supported both professionally and personally.
Our Staff Room contains a dedicated Wellbeing Notice Board, which is updated regularly with information, guidance and resources from trusted organisations, including Mind, the Charlie Waller Trust and other recognised wellbeing providers.
In addition, all areas of the school have access to an Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Resource File. This resource is reviewed and updated annually and contains practical guidance, wellbeing information and signposting to support services. A copy is also available in Reception for parents and carers.
Employee Wellbeing Support
As a Durham County Council school, staff have access to the Health Assured Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
Health Assured provides a free, confidential and independent service offering practical advice, emotional support and counselling from qualified professionals. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, helping staff access support when they need it without lengthy waiting times.

Workload and Professional Wellbeing
We recognise that workload can have a significant impact on staff wellbeing. Staff are encouraged to access resources designed to support workload management, work-life balance and professional wellbeing, including the Department for Education's Workload Reduction Toolkit and other evidence-based guidance.
How We Promote Wellbeing at Walworth
At Walworth Primary School, we believe that staff wellbeing is everyone's responsibility. We are committed to creating a positive, supportive and inclusive working environment where colleagues feel valued, listened to and respected.
We promote wellbeing in a variety of ways, including:
- An open-door culture, where staff can speak to senior leaders at any time to discuss concerns, seek support or share ideas.
- Flexible working arrangements, where operationally possible, to help staff balance their professional and personal commitments.
- Free tea and coffee available daily for all staff.
- Access to a juicer in the staff room to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and promote wellbeing.
- End-of-term continental breakfasts, providing opportunities for staff to come together, celebrate successes and strengthen relationships across the school.
- Regular wellbeing information and resources shared through our Staff Wellbeing Notice Board and staff communications.
- A Staff Shout-Out Board, which gives all colleagues the opportunity to recognise and celebrate one another's contributions. Messages of appreciation are shared across the school, helping to promote a positive culture where achievements, teamwork and acts of kindness are acknowledged and valued.
Looking Ahead
We are continually looking for ways to enhance wellbeing across our school community. As part of this commitment, we are developing a dedicated Wellbeing Hub within the school's bungalow, due to open in September 2026.
The Wellbeing Hub will provide a calm and welcoming space for both staff and children, offering opportunities for reflection, emotional support and wellbeing activities. For staff, the hub will include a quiet area where colleagues can take time out, recharge and focus on their own wellbeing during the school day.
We are excited about the positive impact this new space will have on supporting the wellbeing of everyone in our school community.
